Kurt Konickson, 48, of St. Hilaire, MN died on Monday, August 29, 2011 at his home in St. Hilaire, MN.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday September 2, 2011 at Calvary Lutheran Church, St. Hilaire, MN with Rev. Frank Ehling officiating. Burial will follow at St. Hilaire Community Cemetery, St. Hilaire, MN. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2793 and the Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 PM, Thursday September 1, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls. Pastor Terri Cuppett will officiate a 7:00 PM prayer service Thursday evening. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
Kurt Allen Konickson was born in 1962 at Glenwood Hills Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, Hennepin County, on his Aunt Micki’s birthday of December 8. Kurt was the first of three children born to Jerry and Arlys (Swenson) Konickson. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and confirmed at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire.
Kurt attended elementary school in St. Hilaire, middle school at Franklin Middle School in Thief River Falls, and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1981. Being very athletic, Kurt really enjoyed the wrestling program in high school.
Following high school, Kurt entered into service with the United States Air Force. Basic training for the Air Force was completed in Texas. Kurt proudly served his country for nine years. During his military career Kurt was stationed at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, WY. Kurt performed regular maintenance on missile sites. He also spent time in Japan and in Alaska. After his time in the Air Force, Kurt then returned to St. Hilaire, MN where he lived on the family farm and began working for Arctic Cat. He also worked for Roger Konickson in his spare time, doing drywall.
In the 80’s Kurt was united in marriage to Sherry L. Hovorka in Cheyenne, WY. Together they lived on the Air Force Base as Sherry was also enlisted in the Air Force.
Kurt enjoyed fishing on the family farm, reading, and keeping up with current events. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends.
Survivors include his mother, Arlys Konickson of St. Hilaire, MN; brothers, Keith “Skeeter” Konickson and Brad Konickson both of St. Hilaire, MN; niece and nephew, Jade and Chase Konickson, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jerry Konickson in 2002; grandparents, Henry and Alice Konickson, and Alvin and Dorothy Swenson.
