Adeline Lusignan, 84, died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at the Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Ale Tulu officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday evening. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Adeline Viola Stavenes was born February 25, 1925 in Grygla, Minnesota to Ole and Julia (Nesland) Stavenes. Adeline was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church of rural Grygla. Adeline graduated from Greenbush High School in 1944 and attended Bemidji Teachers College. She was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in rural Grygla, of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, and in later years a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
On April 21, 1945, Adeline was united in marriage to Elmo Joseph Lusignan at the First Presbyterian Church in Bemidji, Minnesota. The couple purchased the family farm where they raised grain, dairy, and registered polled Herefords. In 1958, they moved to Grygla, Minnesota where they farmed and Adeline worked at Grygla Elementary School as a remedial reading teacher and teachers aide. In 1978, the couple retired and moved to Thief River Falls where Adeline gardened, planted trees, and enjoyed her grandchildren (her little dividends). Family, neighbors, and friends were always welcome and couldnt leave without coffee, lunch, or a meal. Adeline lived in her own home until the day of her stroke July 8, 2009.
Adeline was active in Ladies Aid & Sewing Circle at Our Saviors Lutheran in Grygla, Silverton Homemakers of Thief River Falls, Trinity Troops at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN, and helped with the Sunday bulletins and childrens bulletins at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.
She is survived by her children; Duane (LuAnn) of Thief River Falls, Loren (Glenyce) of Grygla, Jade (David) Rude and Diane (Todd) Sundby of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Jill (Brad) Buck, Tracy (Joel) Hallstrom of Thief River Falls, Jay (Molly) Lusignan of Elk River, MN, Brent (Sara) Lusignan of Bemidji, Karla (Brent) King of Delta Junction, AK, and Kyle Lusignan of Mahnomen, Rachel Rude of Fargo, ND, Jennifer (Dan) Berggren of Roseau, and Sara Leatherwood of Thief River Falls, MN; great-grandchildren, Chase & Cali Lusignan of Elk River, Samantha Jo and Emily Buck, Gabrielle & Jesse Hallstrom, and Hailey Leatherwood of Thief River Falls; sisters; Lillah (Ray) Johnson, Lancaster, MN Nellie Storhaug, Thief River Falls, MN; sister-in law; Eunice Stavenes, Grygla, MN; brother-in-law; Kenneth Peterson, Chaska, MN, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Elmo (July 2, 2008), parents, brother, Basil Stavenes; sister, Charlotta (Goodrich) Peterson; & brother-in-law, Robert Storhaug.
