Obituary

Aileen Shorty Olson, 81, died on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.

Memorial Service will be a 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Mark Kukkonen officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls.

Aileene Shorty Gulbranson was born on August 3, 1924 in Erskine, MN, the daughter of Martin and Melvina (Budahl) Gulbranson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith and graduated from Erskine High School as Salutatorian in 1942. She attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis as a Registered Nurse. She spent the last six months of her training in the Nurses Cadet Corp in Brigham City, Utah, caring for amputees and psyche patients. Shorty returned to Thief River Falls after graduation.

Shorty was united in marriage on June 5, 1946 to Wendell Olson at Trinity Lutheran Church. The couple continued to live in Thief River Falls. Shorty worked as an RN at Northwestern Hospital and Oakland Park.

Retirement found Shorty and Wendell taking a six week trip to Alaska where she wrote a daily diary. They spent summers at their cabin on Lake of the Woods returning to Thief River Falls for the winters. She also enjoyed writing her own cookbook. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Shorty is survived by two children: Nancy Olson and husband Ron Gerling of Eagle River, Alaska, Larry Olson and his wife Deanna of Upland, California, and one grandson, Marc Olson and wife Nicole of San Diego, California.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wendell on April 5, 2003; parents and brother, Milo Gulbranson.
