Alan Holmgren, 64, passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at his residence in St. Hilaire, MN.
Alan was born to Darrel and Shirley Holmgren on November 27, 1957, in Warroad, Minnesota. His family moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1961 and later relocated to St. Hilaire, Minnesota. Alan attended school in St. Hilaire.
Alan met the mother of his children, Susan Wilken, in 1976. Together they had four children, Jessica, Miranda, Brent, and Terrance.
Alan began driving a truck in 1975 and logged over 4 million miles in his time behind the wheel. Alan was a proud owner of two semi-trucks and drove for Artic Cat for many years. Alan suffered a leg injury, ultimately ending his over-the-road driving career in 2008. Alan went to work for the seed plant in St. Hilaire for ten years and was most recently working at DigiKey in Thief River Falls.
Alan enjoyed spending time with his family, snowmobiling, and took great pride in his 1967 Ford Galaxy 500. He loved to watch NASCAR races and was a big Tony Stewart fan. He was a friend to many and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Alan always gave good advice, was patient, loving, and was one who everyone loved to be around. His grandchildren loved to get rides on "Papa's toys, and he always stayed in touch or was just a phone call away. Alan was very sharp, knew a lot about everything, and was a jack of all trades. Mowing lawn and Elvis Presley always put a smile on Alan's face.
Alan is survived by his four children-daughter- Jessica Kloos, Glenwood, MN; daughter- Miranda (Jacob) Lorentz, Browerville, MN; son- Brent (Kelsey) Holmgren, Thief River Falls, MN; son- Terrance Holmgren, Fargo, ND; fourteen grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. mother- Shirley Breager; siblings- Donna, Becky, Patty, Steven, Robert, Mike, and Travis.
Alan was preceded in death by his father, Darrel Holmgren, and grandparents, Hilding and Rose Holmgren, along with aunts and uncles.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 11 AM in Johnson Funeral Services, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM, with a Prayer Service at 7PM on Monday, April 25, 2022, at Johnson Funeral Services, Thief River Falls, MN.
Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
