Obituary

Dr. Alfred J. Willett, 92, died on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at his home in Middle River, MN. Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, August 10, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with Pastor David Fish officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Strathcona, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Thursday, August 9, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service on Friday. Alfred James Willett, Jr. was born on February 3, 1920 in Waterbury, CT to Alfred J. and Helen (Petteys) Willett. He was baptized in the Seventh-Day Adventist Faith. He attended elementary and graduated high school in Ballston Spa, NY. Alfred served his country during WWII in the US Army Air Corp beginning in 1941. He was stationed in Ireland, England, France, Africa, and Italy. He was honorably discharged in September of 1945. In 1950, he attended Lincoln Chiropractic College in Indianapolis, IN and received his Doctor of Chiropractic's in 1954. He was married to Dorothy Davis in Ballston Spa, NY on October 28, 1945 and to this union two daughters were born. He worked for many years as a chiropractor in Glens Falls, NY retiring in 1987. He continued caring for people and giving seminars, even after retiring from the office. Due to declining health, he moved to Middle River, MN three years ago to live with his daughter Sheri and her husband Russ. Al never lost his love of airplanes following the military. He received his private pilot's license in the 50's. Al loved flying, and flew his own Cessna 150. He was a fair weather pilot. He enjoyed golfing and belonged to the Kiwannis Club while living in NY. He also had compassion for nature and animals. He loved watching the chipmunks and recently fed one out of his hand. The sunshine and bird watching were also comforting to Al. Alfred is survived by two daughters: Sheri (Russ) Eva, Middle River, MN, and Lynda Herlinger, Martinsburg, WV, seven grandchildren: Brent (Jeannie) Eva, Blossburg, PA, Eran (MarySue) Eva, Berkeley Springs, WV, Lyzette (Eric) Olson, Strathcona, MN, Sgt. Derich Herlinger, USAG Wiesbaden, Germany, Peregrine Herlinger, Frostburg, MD, Rhianne (Uriah) Horst, Martinsburg, WV, Shannon Herlinger, Martinsburg, WV, 10 great grandchildren: Dylan, Dustin, and Mia Eva, Craig Llewellyn, Heath, Lexus, and Gauge Eva, Easton, Layci, and Eizen Olson, one great great grandchild Hannah Rose Llewellyn, one brother Stanley Willett, Parma, OH, the mother of his daughters Dorothy Willett, several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Vera Sojka.
