Alice Johaneson, 87, died on Sunday, May 18, 2003 at the St. Marys Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, on Friday, May 23, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Gary Gilthvedt officiating. Burial will follow in Our Saviors Cemetery in Grygla, MN.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services in the church on Friday.
Alice Lenora Anderson was born on April 18, 1916 in Jelle, MN, Hamre Township, Beltrami County, MN to Jacob and Julia (Dahl) Anderson. She was raised in Hamre Township and attended school in rural Beltrami County. She was baptized on August 17, 1916 and confirmed on August 24, 1930 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Grygla. She attended high school in Bemidji, MN graduating in 1935. She trained for cosmetology in Grand Forks, ND. She worked for Kato Beauty Shop in Grand Forks for a number of years. When WW II broke out she moved to Seattle, WA and worked in the defense plant. She worked as a welder in the Associated Ship Yards. Following the war in 1945 she moved to Minneapolis, MN, later moved to Grygla and married Harry Johaneson. The couple made their home in Lee Township, Beltrami County, MN where they farmed. Alice also worked at the turkey plant in Thief River Falls for over 18 years. For the past few years Alice has resided at the Lakeshore Lutheran Nursing Home in Duluth, MN.
She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in rural Grygla, MN where she taught Sunday School, served as the Ladies Aid President for several years. She was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Grygla. Alice also enjoyed quilt making, fishing, gardening and watching the Minnesota Twins on television. Her special joy were her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She is survived by five children: Michael Johaneson (Carol) of Boise, ID, Wayne Johaneson of Thief River Falls, MN; Linda Skibicki of Duluth, MN; Donald Johaneson (Linda) of Delano, MN; and Phyllis Bergeron of Shell Lake, WI; 12 grandchildren: Tracy, Rhonda, Cheryl, Shannon, Brent, Cindy, Jacob, Jessa, Zachary, Melissa, Travis, and Corey; 6 great grandchildren: Nicholas, Thomas, Autumn Julia, Paige, Collin, and Nolan. She is also survived by many sister and brother in laws including a special sister in law Thea Anderson, Grygla, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Harry in 1998, parents, grandson Casey Johaneson, four sisters: Ella Anderson, Clara Englund, Lillian Sundberg, Nina Magnuson, six brothers: Arthur, Sydney, Manley, Raymond, Herbert, and Clifford.
