Alice Longtin, 86, died on Friday, November 16, 2012 at the Palliative Care Unit of Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Chuck Huck presiding. Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, November 19, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Tuesday at the church. Alice Mae Columbus was born on the family farm near Red Lake Falls, MN on September 2, 1926 the sixth of eight children born to Walter and Mae (Adler) Columbus. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. Alice graduated from Lafayette High School in 1944 and then attended the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis, MN. Alice married Louis E. Longtin on September 23, 1946 and to this union four children were born, Mark, Karen, Lyle and Dale. They lived in Minneapolis, Fairbault and Fergus Falls before returning to Red Lake Falls. She began working at the ASCS office (now-FSA) in 1954 and retired in 1984. She then sold real estate for several years. Alice was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 60 years and was a very proud Gold Star Mother. Alice was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America for 55 years and was very active in those organizations. Alice loved the community of Red Lake Falls and enjoyed participating in many of the community's activities. Alice enjoyed reading, traveling, doing counted cross stitch, and especially spending time at her lake cabin at Rocky Point on Lake-Of-The-Woods for the last 42 years. She was happiest when the grandchildren and great grandchildren were having fun at the lake. She is survived by her children, Karen Longtin of Grygla, MN, Lyle (Polly) Longtin of Fergus Falls, MN, and Dale (Cori Breidenbach) Longtin of Havelock, NC; six grandchildren, Mark (Jodi) Lehrer, Brian (Renae Kasprowicz) Lehrer, James Lehrer, Linnae (Kevin) Weinrich, Tatum (Rob) Katzenmeyer, Brett (Trisha) Longtin; great-grandchildren, Marissa, Kylie, & Trandon Lehrer, John, Julia, Wylie & Livia Lehrer, Devin & Louis Weinrich, Jax & Shay Katzenmeyer, and Layke Longtin; siblings, Marian Harris, Kenneth Columbus & Lois Steenerson; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Alice is preceded in death by her parents; son, Mark in Vietnam; great-grandson, Thomas Lehrer; brothers, Bernard and Donald Columbus; and sisters, Gladys Mullen and LuAnne Hanson.
