Allard Morken, 90, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, MN with Rev. Mary Gilthvedt officiating. Burial will follow at St. Petri Cemetery, rural Grygla, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Grygla American Legion and VFW Post Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, May 3, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the church.
Allard Bernard Morken was born on August 1, 1919 on the family farm in Valley Township, Marshall County, MN the son of Andrew Olaus and Bergine (Bergseng) Morken. He was baptized on September 12, 1919 and confirmed on October 15, 1933 at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN. He attended the Pleasant Valley School in Valley Township.
Allard entered into military service in the United States Army in December of 1941 and served with the 346th Infantry of the 87th Division (The Golden Acorn Division) during World War II. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge in the Ardennes Forest and in several other battles and campaigns in the European Theatre. He was Honorably Discharged in December of 1945.
On October 21, 1945 Allard was united in marriage to Margaret Lillevold at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Grygla, MN. They made their home on the Morken family farm and during that time he farmed and worked at Arctic Cat as a welder for many years. In 2007 Allard and Margaret received the Century Farm Award in Marshall County. He lived on the family farm until the time of his death.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his buddy, Palmer Lian. Allard passed his love for hunting and fishing on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially loved when the grandkids and great-grandkids would come over and visit. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, and in his younger years enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Petri Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Margaret of Grygla; children, Marilyn (Jim) Honsey of Stewartville, MN, Allan (Mary) Morken of Grand Forks, ND, Genelle Black of Grygla; grandchildren, Eldon (Lisa) Quam, Allison (Andy Bloedorn) Quam, Gary (Kacey) Quam, Selena (Jason) Reed, Meredith (Matt) Lhotka, Andrew Morken, Ryan Black and Travis (Angie) Black; great-grandchildren, Courtney, Olivia, Ella, Logan, Kade, Kyler, Claire, Ellen, Alexis, Isaac and Ruby; and several nieces and nephews, including two special nieces, Bev and Jan.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Thelma and Edna in childhood, and Alpha Johnson; and brothers, Arthur in infancy, Stanley and Milton Morken.
