Allen Barsness, Fosston, MN, formerly Oklee, MN, 90, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020 at First Care Nursing Home, Fosston, MN.

A private family funeral service will be on Saturday, May 2, 2020.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM on Friday, May 1, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN, with a limit of 10 people in at a time.

Allen Barsness was born July 9, 1929 in Spring Valley, WI, the son of Melvin and Ella (Hanson) Barsness.  He attended the local Grove Country School and Spring Valley High School graduating in 1948.

On April 10, 1954, Allen was united in marriage to Dorothy Burdette in Stockhom, WI.  They moved to Oklee, MN where they continued to reside for 61 years and the past few years have resided at the Fosston First Care Living Center.

Allen was a farmer and in 1966, he started at Detroiter Mobile Homes and Homark retiring in 1992. The couple enjoyed camping, dancing, and spending time with family. Allen was very interested in genealogy, and family history.

Survived by children: Keith Barsness (Lisa Drake of West Tawakoni, TX) of Grygla, MN, Dwelton Barsness of Thief River Falls, MN and Lila Coulter (Ken Thomas) of Gonvick, MN; grandchildren: Michael Barsness of West Tawakoni, TX, Joseph Barsness of Thief River Falls, MN, Celeste Coulter (Dieter Hermann) of Ettrick, WI, Candace Coulter of Gonvick, MN, and Colette (Billy) Neely of Prague. OK; great grandchildren: Taylor (Shawn Zabel) Coulter, Nicholas Hermann, Carlie Coulter, Augustus Coulter, Calen Neely, Ciera Neely, Holden Neely and Hazel Neely; brother and sisters-in-law: Danny (Barbara) Carlstrom of River Falls, WI, Charlotte Schivley of Cochrane, WI and Ruthy Linehan of Minneapolis, MN, Janice Barsness of Minneapolis area; along with several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by wife Dorothy,  parents, grandparents, brother Ellis Barsness and brother and sister-in-law Marland (LaDonna) Barsness, brother-in-law Frank Schivley, niece Renae Schivley, and nephews, Kenny and Steve Barsness, son-in-law Lawrence Coulter.
