Alma A. Hanson Thief River Falls, MN formerly Plummer, MN, age 92, died Friday May 17, 2013 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at the Finnish Cemetery in rural Plummer, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Tuesday at the church. Alma Amanda Kangas was born on April 30, 1921 at home in Becker County, MN to Emil and Tilda (Peterson) Kangas. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church and attended School District #62. Her father died when Alma was 5 years old and also her brother, Ronald age 2 died that same year. Tilda raised the kids and Alma helped her a lot. Alma later worked as a nanny and waitressed as a young woman. On November 10, 1956 Alma was united in marriage to Arthur B. Hanson at Menahga, MN in the parsonage. The newly married couple made their home in Minneapolis before buying a farm by Plummer, MN. They traveled and worked back and forth between Plummer and Minneapolis before buying a different farm where they milked cows and farmed. Then Art, Alma & Clarence bought what became Hanson's Bar in Plummer in the 1970's and operated it for over many years. In June of 2003, Art and Alma moved to Thief River Falls, MN. Alma was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN, the Plummer Senior Citizens, and Plummer Legion Auxiliary. Alma never missed a family event and they shared much love and support for family and friends. Alma loved to play bingo and loved to be a part of fun activities. She was always a very loving and generous lady. Alma and Art enjoyed many trips visiting family and friends. Survivors include niece, Susan (Al) Samuelson; nephews, Mike Salminen, & Bradley Kangas and their families; numerous nieces & nephews and great nieces & great nephews on the Hanson side; sisters-in-law, Betty Knoll Huderle (Ed Huderle) of Warren, MN and JoAnn (Maynard) Laymon of Warren, MN; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur in 2005; parents; brothers, Alvin, Donald (Ann) & Ronald; nephews, Steve Salminen & Ronald Kangas; and brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law on the Hanson side including, infant, Alice Hanson, Harold (Helen) Hanson, Ann (Norman) Newland, Clarence Hanson, Ardith Haugen Zimpel, Frank Knoll; niece, Shelly Flaten; and nephew, Bruce Laymon.
