Life of Riley
This is the way it was by Alma!
September 1928-my first job at Roland Store, Oklee, MN-enjoyed it very much, stayed there until October 1929-stayed home until March or April 1930. Went to Fertile and worked at Halstensgards. Then home again for awhile. September 1931, I went to Pencer to work at store and post office for R.V. Anderson in 1933. They sold out and bought a store in Gully- July 4, 1933 I moved to Gully to work at the store there-1934 Anderson sold out and moved to Skime, I worked there for awhile-then back home for awhile-then Gully. Also worked in the post office in Gully. Stan had a gas station in Erskine for a year-then we moved to Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis. Business (convenience store) got low after the war began, all our young customers were called into service. So I went to work at Durkee Atwood for awhile and then I was called to Honeywell. Stayed about a year, then we opened the store again and sold out. Then I went to work at Sears Roebuck, will call desk and mail order. Moved back to Gully for awhile, then to Thief River Falls. In April 1947, I started work at Oen Mercantile. In 1948, Oens sold out to S&L Department Store, later that was changed to Bostwicks-going on 43 years. Bostwicks closed their doors, February 1, 1990, so my career was over.
