Alpha T. Halvorson of Thief River Falls, MN age 88 died peacefully on Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM on Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Alpha Thorine Langved was born on July 19, 1927 in Woodside Township, Fertile, MN the daughter of Albert and Albertina "Tina" (Barlund) Langved. She attended Hillside School (country elementary school) and Fertile High School, graduating in 1945. Alpha then attended Nurses Training in Thief River Falls. She earned her L.P.N. Degree and began working at St. Luke's Hospital in Thief River Falls. In 1946 at a dance at the Sons Of Norway Club in Thief River Falls, Alpha met her future husband, Harold Halvorson. The couple was married on August 1, 1948 at Maple Lake Lutheran Church. They made their home on the Halvorson Family Farm in Excel Township of Marshall County, MN. To this union four children were born, David, Debra, Gary, and Bradley. Alpha enjoyed being home with her children while they were growing. She then went to work at the Thief River Creamery and later went to work as an L.P.N. at Northwestern Hospital in the nursery until her retirement. Alpha enjoyed dancing, reading, flower gardening, snowmobiling, traveling, horse trail riding, fishing, camping, crocheting, knitting, curling and visiting with her family and friends. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls where she was active with the Ladies Aid, Altar Care, quilting, and teaching Sunday school. Alpha was active with the Retired Nurses, Birthday Club, West Steiner Homemakers, was a 4-H Leader, and in 1989 the couple was awarded the Valley Farmer and Homemaker Award at the Crookston Winter Show. Survivors include her loving husband of 67 years, Harold of Thief River Falls; children, David Halvorson of Bemidji, MN, Debra (Nick) Drees of Thief River Falls; Gary (fiancé, Laurie Haenke) Halvorson of Bemidji, MN, and Brad (Patricia) Halvorson of Prior Lake, MN; grandchildren, Nicholas (Heather) Drees, Michael Drees, Jon Drees, Anthony Halvorson and Samuel Halvorson; great-granddaughter, Nora Marie Drees (born July 2, 2015 and Alpha was able to meet and hold her); sister-in-law, Maxine Langved of Fertile, MN; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, James Langved; sisters, Kathleen (Vernon "Butch") Fahey, June (Alvin) Larson and Donna (Otto) Kvasager; daughter-in-law, Madelene Halvorson.
