Alvin Holmstrom, 89, died Friday, September 15, 2006 at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 2 PM, Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at Bethesda Lutheran Church, Strandquist, MN with Reverend Curtis Matz officiating. Burial will be at Heglund Cemetery, Nelson Park Township, Marshall County, MN.

Visitation will be 1 " 2 PM, Tuesday, prior to the service, at the church.

Alvin Erick Holmstrom was born February 17, 1917, at home to John and Bertha (Lindstrom) Holmstrom in Wright Township, Marshall County, MN. He was baptized at Mamrelund Lutheran Church and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church. He attended 8 grades at Oak Ridge rural school. He farmed and worked in the woods, worked building Highway 75, then the Old Mill State Park, Leos Garage, Arctic Cat for 19 years and Green Thumb for 2 years.

On June 28, 1944, Alvin was united in marriage to Ruth Gunderson at Hegland Church.

He had lived at Oakwood Homes, Karlstad, MN since 1987 and in October of 2002, he moved to Karlstad Healthcare Center, Karlstad, MN.

Alvin loved car races and taking drives in the country. He also enjoyed the animals at Paul Bunyan's Animal Land in Bemidji,MN.

Alvin is survived by son, Roger (Caara) Holmstrom, Bemidji, MN and sister, Judith Kleinvachter, Karlstad, MN and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by wife, Ruth on May 13, 2001; parents; sister, Ellen; brothers, Ernest and Elmer; a half brother, Herbert
