Alvin Johnson, 94, died Tuesday February 26, 2013, with his loving wife by his side, at Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center of Dassel at Dassel, MN. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM in St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls with Father Rick Lambert Officiating. Burial will be held at St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Cemetery at Plummer, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the Church. Alvin Chester Johnson was born May 6, 1918 at Plummer, MN son of Edward and Mary (Brekke) Johnson. He was raised there and attended school at Plummer Graduating in 1936. Alvin entered the US Army on September 5, 1942 at Fort Snelling, MN and served until his honorable discharge April 29, 1946. Alvin served in the Southern Philippines and received the Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberation Service Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal. On November 4, 1944 Alvin was united in marriage to Nadine Maney at the St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church parsonage in Plummer, MN and enjoyed 68 years of marriage. The couple made their home in Plummer where Alvin was employed with Soo Line Railroad on the Maintenance Crew for 40 years. Alvin and Nadine have spent the past 20 winters in Las Vegas. Alvin was a kind and quiet man, yet quite a jokester. He was well respected and loved by his family and friends. He was a retired member of the Plummer Fire Department and life member and past commander of the Plummer American Legion and a life member of the Thief River Falls VFW. He is survived by his wife Nadine Johnson of Plummer, MN; children Larry (Paulette) Johnson of Pahrump, NV; Dennis (Stephanie) Johnson of Minot, ND; Julie (Kenneth) Wichterman of Hutchinson, MN: Grandchildren David Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Sarah Jenkins, Dennis Johnson II, Sheri Schaefer, Joshua Al Johnson, Kari Rath, Kelli Ahlberg and Katie Wichterman: great-grandchildren Alex Schaefer, Brooke Schaefer, Juliana Schaefer, Tristan Johnson, Silas Johnson, Dalton Foss, Savannah Jenkins, Kaitlyn Jenkins, Emily Jenkins, Haylie Jenkins and Samuel Rath and several nieces and nephews. Alvin is preceded in death by his parents, brother Clarence Johnson; sisters Lily Lee, Ethal Charlson, Margaret Tischart, Dorothy Paquin.
