Obituary

Alvin Nordvick, 96, of Grygla, died on Friday, June 8, 2012 at his family home in rural Grygla. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Thursday, June 14, 2012, at the Open Arms Christian Fellowship in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor David Fish officiating. Burial will follow at 3 PM, Thursday at the Pony Lake Cemetery, (12886 Hwy 89 NW) near Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Thursday. Alvin Martin Nordvick was born on February 26, 1916, to Gerhardt Johann and Kjirsten Marie (Kristensen) Nordvick in Eckvoll Township, near Grygla, MN. He was baptized in his youth at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Middle River, MN. He attended the Eckvoll Township Schools through the 8th grade. He was united in marriage to Marie Jenkauski on September 1, 1946 in Bemidji, MN at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He worked many years as a self-employed farmer and land improvement contractor. Alvin enjoyed training and working with horses in his early years. He also enjoyed traveling; making two trips to Norway, Puerto Rico once, and throughout the United States. He was a member of the Sons of Norway. He was never happier than when he could spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is survived by three children: Darold (Darcy) Nordvick of Grygla, MN, and their children Holly (Chad) Jessen, Penny (Jose) Castillo, Luke, Katy (Ken) Skillings, his daughter Alvina (Timothy) Rittenour of Grygla, MN and their children Nathan, Tammy (Keith) Mosier, Melody (Jonathan) Dietrich, Carl, and Friedrich, his daughter MaryAnn Wollin (Father of her children Scott Wollin) of Karlstad, MN, and their children Kayla, Shania, Emma, Sara, Manda, six great grandchildren Oliver, Elias, Sebastian, Rafael Castillo, Shiloh, and Caleb Mosier; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Alvin was preceded in death by his loving wife Marie, his parents, two brothers Palmer and Berge, and sister Borghild Nordvik.
