Obituary







Alving Nelson, 90, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Wednesday, September 1, 1999 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN. Arrangements with Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 4, 1999 at 2:00 PM at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls with Reverend Gary Graff Officiating. Burial will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.

Visitation will be held on Friday, from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:30 PM prayer service at the Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Alving Al Leonard Nelson was born July 1, 1909 at Bowesmont, ND son of the late John L. and Ida (Ronberg) Nelson. He was raised and attended rural school in the Warren, Angus MN area where he also worked on area farms. On November 27, 1933 he was united in marriage to Vanilla Nelle Marquis in Crookston, MN. In the mid 1940s they moved to rural Red Lake Falls. Al worked as a Forman for the June Grass Seed Company in St. Hilaire, MN. He worked at Wilcox Furniture in Red Lake Falls for over 20 years. Al enjoyed raising and racing horses. Nelle passed away on April 24, 1999.
Al is survived by his children Joan Burstad (Eldon) of Menomonie, WI; Marilyn Johnson (Marvin) of Jones, OK; Karen Moonen (Friend Harry Bell) of Rush City, MN; Dianna Nelson (Dr. Owen) of Red Lake Falls, MN and Mark Nelson (Sharon) of Red Lake Falls, MN. 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, brothers Irving Nelson, Russell Nelson, Shelby Nelson and sisters Idora Thompson and Lilly Bruer.
