Obituary

Amorin E. Olson Thief River Falls, MN, age 79, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at his home doing what he loved, blowing snow. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Ben Carlsen and Rev. Mark Helgeland officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Amorin Eddy Olson was born October 9, 1934 on the family farm east of Grygla, MN in Beltrami County the son of Edwin and Alma (Sletten) Olson. He was the fourth of seven children. He survived polio when he was a toddler which left him with his signature walk. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. When Amorin was three years old, the family moved to Thief River Falls, MN where he attended school. He worked at Heens Meat Market while he was in high school. Amorin along with all of his brothers worked at Kiewel Bottling Company in Thief River Falls. On January 20, 1957, Amorin was united in marriage to Elody Gayle Kulseth at First Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. To this union five children were born, Cindy, Cheri, Chris, Craig and Carole. Amorin worked at Land-O-Lakes Feed Mill for a few years and worked as a journeyman plumber at Lee Plumbing for a number of years. He was a welder at Arctic Enterprises, was a lead man in the machine shop at Forsberg's, and went back as a welder at Arctic Cat before retiring in 1998. He had a life-long love of learning and more often than not could be found immersed in multiple books, documentaries or resting his eyes. He had a knack for solving problems and fixing things; if a part was needed he could create it. He had an insatiable curiosity about the world around him. Amorin was an outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, walking, trapping and just being out in nature. He passed much of his considerable knowledge and love of nature onto his children and grandchildren, patiently teaching and nurturing those skills. He was happiest with his whole family around him. Amorin loved to visit with his family or with someone he just met and he always had the coffee pot on. He was an avid and gifted storyteller who spent countless hours entertaining those lucky enough to be listening. Those who met him will never forget him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather & great-grandfather. He will be sorely missed, but will live on in the hearts of those who love him. He was a proud member of the NRA. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 57 years, Elody Olson of Thief River Falls; children, Cindy (Ike) Ellingsen of Viking, MN, Cheri (Dean Johnson) Hasbrouck of Erskine, MN, Chris (Christine) Olson of Parkers Prairie, MN, Craig Olson of Thief River Falls, and Carole (Lonnie) Friesz of Faribault, MN; grandchildren, Jordan (Bethany Tollefson) Hasbrouck, Braedon Hasbrouck, Kayla Estabrooks, Kenya (Casey Goulet) Olson, Travis Friesz; great-grandson, Hunter Goulet; sister, Deloris Hoglo; sister-in-law, Marlene Olson; mother-in-law, Helen Kulseth; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
