Anna Lucille (Olson) Arden, 95, of Thief River Falls, MN, formerly of Wilmington, DE and Forest Lake, MN, passed peacefully on Monday August 6, 2018 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN.
A Celebration of her Life and Memory will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2 PM at the Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN hosted by her family.
Anna Lucille Olson Arden was born on September 21, 1922, at the home farm near Forest Lake, MN., the daughter of Anna Matilda Miller Olson and Iver Otto Olson. She finished High School including special training in office equipment used at the time. Before meeting her sweetheart she worked at Woolworths and Munsingwear in Minneapolis. She moved to San Diego, California where she worked as a nanny for a cousin. While in San Diego she also worked as a riveter at an airplane factory for the war effort.
She met John Joseph Arden (formerly Victor Joseph Szozda) in January, 1953, while bowling with her league at a local bowling alley in Minneapolis. They had a beautiful courtship, often dancing, swinging and polkaing the night away to live music at the famous dance halls of Minneapolis. They married on November 28, 1953 in the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. They made their home in: Minneapolis, MN; Hollywood and San Diego, California; Wilmington, DE; Ventura and Anaheim, California; before moving back to Wilmington, DE where Lucille lived until John passed on March 4, 2005. In July, 2005 Lucille moved to Thief River Falls, MN.
Lucille had many "jobs" in her life but by far the most forfilling for her and to which she devoted herself wholly until moving to Thief River Falls was being a mom to her 5 children. Don, the eldest, was born in Hollywod, California in 1957. Then after moving to San Diego along came Dulcy, Debbie and Rex. Lastly, Alan, her baby, was born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1965. We all loved the fun trips across the ENTIRE country moving back and forth from California to Delaware in old rickety cars with small trailers holding our life's possessions. Before marrying and having children Lucille's main focus was always her family. She idolized her parents and older siblings, looking up to them and speaking proudly of them. She cherished her younger siblings and her nieces and nephews evidenced by the many pictures she took of them and the mementos she kept of their achievements. The stories she's told us of her family are true treasures. We made several trips to Minnesota during our childhood (fun-filled trips in old station wagons) to visit our aunties, uncles and cousins.
Lucille is survived by her children: Donald Arden, Thief River Falls, MN; Dulcy (Amgad) Arden, Winnipeg, MB Canada; Debbie Arden, Quartz Hill, CA; Rex Arden, Wilmington, DE; Alan Arden, Thief River Falls, MN. Grandchildren: Ryan Greif; Lizzie Greif; Suzy Fanous; Sarah Fanous. Brother: Windfield---"Whitey", "Winnie" to Lucille--- (Jeanne) Olson, Hugo Minnesota. Sister-in-law: Harriet Olson, Wyoming, MN. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great-nieces and great great-nephews.
Lucille is preceded in death by: her husband, John Arden; her parents, Anna and Iver Olson; Her Siblings: Grace (Arnold) Peterson; Paul (Jeanette, Ellen, Bea) Olson; Troed (Hazel) Olson; Violet (Alfred) Buckner; Erial (Archie) Swenson; Ruth (Pat) Drummond; Donald Olson; Wallace (Mary) Olson; Kenneth (Connie) Olson; her neice, Evelyn Bristlin.
We love our mama and we will miss her with all our hearts, minds and souls.
