Obituary

Anna Marie Hestad, 86, died Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 25, 2012 at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Bruce Fisher officiating. Burial will follow at the Shelly Marsh River Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday at the Evangelical Free Church. Anna Marie Ona was born in Michigan, ND on April 7, 1926 the youngest of six children and only girl born to Ludvig and Helga (Skori) Ona. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and when Anna Marie was a young girl, the family moved to a farm in Sanders Township, Pennington County, MN. She was confirmed at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church near Thief River Falls, MN. She attended rural schools and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1944. Anna Marie worked at Ben Franklin in Thief River Falls and children's homes in Muscatine, IA and Fargo, ND before attending the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN. While there she met her husband to be, Edwin Hestad. The couple was married on June 27, 1954 at the Oak Ridge Lutheran Church and they made their home in the Fargo/Moorhead area for a short time. In 1956 they moved to Shelly, MN where Edwin had grown up; and in 1974 they returned to the farm in Sanders Township, near Thief River Falls where Anna Marie had grown up. After they returned to Thief River Falls, Anna Marie worked at Wally's Grocery Store for a short time before becoming the 16th employee at Digi-Key where she continued to work until she retired at the age of 70. Edwin passed away on January 8, 1987. Anna Marie currently attended the Thief River Falls Evangelical Free Church. She was very devoted to her faith and prayer life. Throughout her years, Anna Marie has been active as a Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School leader, choir member and vocalist, and in her later years was active in the White Cross and Berean Fellowship. She enjoyed her years on the farm, following the Minnesota Twins, quilting, crocheting and having lunch with friends and former classmates. She always looked forward to time she could spend with her children and grandchildren. Anna Marie's travels took her to Italy where she was able to see the grave of her brother; also to Amsterdam, Hawaii, England, Paris, Alaska, and Norway, as well as other trips. Survivors include her children, Adrian (Coleen) Hestad of Sharpsburg, GA, Harlan Hestad of Byron, MN and Joycelyn Trontvet of Grand Forks, ND; 6 grandchildren, Lindsey (Travis) Moore, Mitch Hestad, Gretchen Hestad, Janna Trontvet, Kelsey Trontvet and Brayden Trontvet; step great grandchildren, Malia Moore and Jack Moore; sister-in-law, Clarice Ona of Edina, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband; son-in-law, Randy Trontvet; parents; and brothers, Elmer, Thelmer, Melvin (Maxine), Arthur and Alert.
