Anne Healy died at the home she loved in Red Lake Falls, MN at the age of 94 on Monday, October 22, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M., Friday, October 26, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Chuck Huck presiding. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer service on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday. Anne Florestine (Skala) Healy Anne Florestine Healy was born April 17, 1918 in Red Lake Falls, Minnesota on the Skala farm on the edge of town, the daughter of Joseph and Alice (Columbus) Skala. Anne attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Red Lake Falls through the eighth grade and high school at the Mt. Saint Benedict in Crookston, MN, graduating in 1936 She went on to attend the Texas School of Mines at El Paso, the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota School of Business in Minneapolis. On March 26, 1940, Anne married Martin Healy also of Red Lake Falls and moved to California to work for the WWII war effort. They returned to Red Lake Falls in 1945 and soon moved into the Healy House on the banks of the Clearwater River where she has lived, and entertained, ever since. Anne loved to share her home with her community where she hosted countless meetings, guests, and visiting dignitaries including AFRAN and Historical Society meetings, the cast from "Opera on the Farm", students from the Global Studies Institute, African farmers, family, friends, and almost anyone interested in local history. Anne had a special interest in the history of her home town. Her house was filled with old pictures and newspapers which she readily shared with friends and strangers alike. She co-edited the "History of Red Lake County with Sherry Kankel (published in 1976) and served on the Red Lake County Historical Society. She was instrumental in the development of the Pierre Bottineau Memorial east of town and was active in the planning of the annual Chautauqua held at Huot Park. Anne's long life was spent serving the town and community she loved. She was active in the Red Lake Falls Commercial Club, the Association of the French of the North (AFRAN), the Catholic Daughters of St. Joseph Church, and was the recipient of the Torch and Shield Award from the University of Minnesota at Crookston (1976). Anne worked with her husband Martin at the Healy Land Office in Red Lake Falls, was editor of the Red Lake Falls Gazette, and worked at the Red Lake County State Bank. She was also the local KROX radio news editor broadcasting the news of Red Lake Falls and Red Lake County for thirty years. Survivors include her eight children: Pat (Darrell) Marsh of Eagle, ID; Don (Karen ) Healy of Hibbing MN; Mary Malone of Northfield, MN; Alan (Jean) Healy of Red Lake Falls, MN; Chuck (Gail) Healy of Red Lake Falls, MN; Mark (Kim) Healy of Wonder Lake, IL; Jane Bell of Red Lake Falls, MN; and Pam (Bruce) Columbus of Red Lake Falls, MN, Grandchildren: Mikki (Glenn) Mosell, Margo (John) Limm, Brian (Courtney) Healy, Jeremy Nelson, Angela Jivery, Shane Jivery,Amy (Mark) Pagel, Ben (Brenda) Furuseth, Allison Healy, Megan Healy, Tracy Horner, Tom Healy, Emily Healy, Lucas Healy, Cassie Columbus, and Breanna Columbus, Great Grandchildren: Brad, Kylie, Tamber, Henry, Walter, Mary, Brian Jr., Annika, Trenton, Issabelle, Emerson, Alex, Audrey, Whitney, and Damien. Sisters: Evelyn Richards of Park City, UT, and Isabelle (Bo) Booth of Walport, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Henry.
