Obituary

Anthony Madunich, 94, died on Monday, November 15, 2010 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 20, 2010 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Tonys life began on Minnesotas Mesabi Iron Range. He was born on December 8, 1915 in Hibbing, the third child of Bob and Berta Madunich. Tonys parents immigrated to the United States from Yugoslavia and Czeckoslovakia, ultimately settling in Carson Lake, MN, a small mining community where Tony spent his childhood and youth.

Tony was a curious, adventuresome child and a gifted student. He was a graduate of Hibbing High School and attended Hibbing Junior College.

Tony married Neoma Durheim of Keewatin, Minnesota June 16, 1941. Tony, a veteran of World War II, served in the U.S. Army from 1942 -1946. He was stationed at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs where he was assigned to medical-dental services.

In December 1947 Tony joined the first class of Minnesota Drivers License Examiners. He was assigned the Northeastern Minnesota service area until his transfer to Thief River Falls in 1953. In 1967 he was promoted to Drivers License Examiner Supervisor for the St. Cloud area. He returned to Thief River Falls in 1968 as an Appraiser Trainee for the Equalization Aid Review Committee of the Research Division in the Minnesota Revenue Department. He was promoted to the position of Appraiser in 1969 and became a Senior Appraiser in 1976 serving the northwestern part of the state until his retirement in 1978.

Tonys interests were many and varied. He was an avid reader. He enjoyed travel, building HO gauge model trains and playing cards at the card room and the casino. He enjoyed problem-solving and held a number of patents for his inventions.

Tonys family brought joy, purpose and direction to his life. Together he and Neoma raised four children, Marlys (Jim) Terrian of Newberry, MI, Tony (Mary) Madunich of Mead, WA, Marcie (Harvey) Fisher of Holt, MN and Kerry Juneau of St. Hilaire, MN. Tony is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Steve (Monica) Terrian, Tracy (Tom) Skinner, Erica Engman, Jared Sandahl, Nicholas Madunich. Christopher Madunich, Jordan Juneau, 8 great-grandchildren, two nephews and three neices.

During the last years of his life Tony resided at Valley Home in TRF. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sister Rose Madunich, sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Leland Guyer, neice Andrea Guyer, nephews Tom Durheim and Bill Durheim and dear friend Ruby Knutson.
