Anthony Payment, 86, of Brooks, MN died on Sunday, March 19, 2000 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls, MN. Arrangements with the Petterson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 24, 2000 at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery near Brooks.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday only.

Anthony Joseph Payment was born December 17, 1913 in Brooks, MN son of Ozais and Emelie (Champagne) Payment Sr. he was baptized and confirmed at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks. He was raised and educated in the Brooks area. On January 21, 1942 Anthony entered the US Army serving during W.W.II over seas. He was honorably discharged October 21, 1945. He returned to the Brooks area where he farmed for a short time. He moved to Alaska where he worked for many years in the timber industry. Tony returned to the Brooks area where he worked at the American Crystal Sugar in Crookston for a time. He also did odd jobs including painting for people in the area. He also cut hair for people in the area.

He enjoyed fishing, riding his three wheeler out to the farm, gardening and canning. He was a member of the VFW.

Anthony is survived by his sister Betty Schmidt in Arizona: several nieces and nephews including locally James Payment of Mentor, MN and Xavier Payment of Red Lake Falls, MN.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ozais Payment Jr. Napoleon Payment, Philip Payment and Tennis Payment; sisters Delia Kershaw, Laura Lizotte, Rose Fournier and Antoinette Payment.
