Obituary

Ardith Lois Knight Langlie was born on March 16, 1918, to Bess Mabel (Scribner) and William Kenedrick Knight in the city of Thief River Falls, MN. She lived most of her life in Thief River Falls and briefly in Detroit Lakes. She passed peacefully at her home, 100 Breezy Drive in Thief River Falls, the most wonderful place in the world , Friday, June 3, 2011, surrounded by loved ones.

Ardith was a member of the Methodist Church her entire life. She attended Knox Elementary and graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. She was hired by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She excelled at management and became chief operator at Northwestern Bell supervising 31 operators. She married Edwin Olaf Langlie of Plummer, MN, March 22, 1951. She retired from Northwestern Bell and they started Langlie Lectric, an electrical contracting company. She would manage the phones from home, go-fer supplies, and assist with billing, while raising a family.

Ardith and Ed enjoyed traveling to visit their children in Victoria, British Columbia; Reno, Nevada; and Wurerzburg, Germany. They also traveled to Africa, South America, Norway, Hawaii and across much of the US and Canada.
Ardith was a strong advocate for the empowerment of women and independent thinking. She loved her Methodist Church circle and church friends. Ardiths love of the outdoors, gardening and animals, inspired her whole family.

Preceding Ardith in death are her parents; her brother and sister (twins) and their spouses: Lillian and Alvin Omdahl and Minnie and Leland Knight.

Ardith is survived by her husband, Edwin; her four daughters, Mary (Tom) Seaworth, Detroit Lakes, MN, and their children, Erin and Mat McBriar, Dallas, Texas, Katie, New York, NY, Kelly, Scottsdale, AZ, and Michael, Huntington Beach, CA; Laurie and Eric Griffiths, and their son, Timur, Victoria, British Columbia; Shelly Langlie and Jeff Wendt, and their daughters, Mia and Sara, Arden Hills, MN, and Patty and Brian Hess, and their son, Christian (CJ) and daughter, Kaija, Reno, Nevada.

There will be a visitation from 5-7 pm Wednesday evening, June 15, at Johnson Funeral Service, 420 LaBree Ave N, Thief River Falls, concluding with a 7pm prayer service. Visitation will also take place one hour prior to Ardiths funeral at the church.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, June 16, at 11:00 am, United Methodist Church, 116 N Horace Ave, Thief River Falls. Interment will be Friday, June 17th, 11:00 am, at Camp Ripley, Little Falls, MN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice of the Red River Valley and the United Methodist Church are suggested.
