Arlen Booren, 74, of Roseau, MN formerly of Thief River Falls, MN died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, April 26, 2014 at 10:30 AM at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father John Kleinwachter Officiating and Father Rick Lambert Concelebrant. Burial will be held at St. Bernard's Church Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 25 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Charles Arlen Booren was born September 8, 1939 in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Charles August and Mildred (Nelson) Booren. He was raised in Thief River Falls, MN and attended school at Lincoln High School graduating in 1957. He entered the US Army in October 1958 and went to Fort Carson, Colorado for Basic Training. He then went on to Fort Gordon, Georgia for Crypto Training and from there to Fort Houston, Texas. In 1959 he went to Germany where he was assigned to the 72nd Artillery group as a Cryptographer which was coding and decoding top secret messages. While in Germany he was able to visit Spain, France, Belgium, Sweden and Denmark. He was Honorably Discharged on April 1st, 1962. Arlen returned to Thief River Falls where he worked for the Forestry Department. On April 11, 1964 he was united in marriage to Theda Stoskopf at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. There were three children born to this union, Maria, Michael and Monty. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and then in 2004 they relocated to Beltrami Island State Forest where they have continued to make their home. Arlen began his career with Northwestern Bell serving the company throughout northwest MN. The company split in the 1980's and he worked for AT&T in Thief River Falls and retired from the company out of Fargo, ND in 1989. Arlen enjoyed 4-wheeling, golf cart riding, fishing, hunting, and outdoors. Time spent at Whispering Pines. He was artistic in wood burning, pencil and charcoal drawings. Most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his family especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The couple just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Arlen loved his two dogs Lucy Lue and Sandy Sue. Arlen is survived by his wife of 50 years, Theda Booren of Roseau, MN; children Maria (Steve) Alby of Thief River Falls, MN, Michael (Becky Milsop) Booren of Thief River Falls, MN and Monty (Heather) Booren of Newfolden, MN; grandchildren Samantha, Wyatt, Harley, Kapital, Ashley, Caily, Chase, McKenna, Haaken; great-grandchildren Lauren and Forrest. Two sisters Barb Hoard of Thief River Falls, MN and Lynda Raymond of Thief River Falls, MN along with several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Booren, brother-in-law Eric Hoard, nephew Thomas Raymond.
