Arlen Sorum of Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024 with his wife at his side in his Thief River Falls home.

The funeral for Arlen will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 29, 2024 at Evangelical Covenant Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN.

Arlen Arthur Sorum was born December 10, 1939 at Crookston, MN son of Arthur and Emma (Schalow) Sorum. The family moved to Mandan, ND where he was confirmed at 1st Lutheran Church and graduated from Mandan High School class of 1958.

Arlen entered the US Navy on May 27, 1958 and served his country as a Flight Simulator Instructor until his honorable discharge on May 25, 1962 as a Third Class Petty Officer.

After his military service, Arlen worked at Milton Rue Construction Company and later as a supervisor at the US Postal Service from 1967 until 1992.

In 1986, Arlen was united in marriage to Judy Arnold and their blended families included Arlen's sons Mike and Allen and Judy's daughters Lisa and Nenna.

Arlen enjoyed bowling, reading, history, traveling, jogging, walking, playing tennis, and playing cribbage and pinochle. He also enjoyed following the stock market and keeping up to date on world events.

Arlen was a member of the American Legion and the Evangelical Covenant Church.

Arlen is survived by his loving wife Judy of Thief River Falls, MN; son Michael (Rose) Sorum of Fargo, ND, stepdaughters Lisa (Hamlin) Arnold and Nenna (Matt) Arnold; grandchildren, Erin Sorum, Robert Arasin, and Justin Lawrence; sisters-in-law, Janice Peterson and Judie Anderson; and nieces, Sandi, Kris, Janie, and Sara.

Arlen is preceded in death by his son Allen, parents Arthur and Emma, and brother Arlo Peterson.
