Arlene "Kip" Dalen, 89 of Thief River Falls, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Oakland Park Nursing Home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 AM on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Voelker officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 on Friday, December 21, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN.
Arlene "Kip" Dalen was born November 22, 1929 in Staples, MN the daughter of Melvin and Ellen (Engdahl) Haugen. She was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples, MN. She graduated from Staples High School with the class of 1947 and earned her Teacher's Certificate from St. Cloud Teaching College.
Kip taught school in Fosston, MN for a short time prior to her marriage to Alan Dalen on June 30, 1951. They were married at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples. To this union four children were born, Mark, Peggy, Dean and Todd. They lived in Minneapolis, MN for one year, Greenbush, MN for three years, Kimball, MN for eight years and Cokato, MN for seven years before coming to Thief River Falls in 1971.
Kip worked as a retail clerk at Fountain Of Jewels and Corner Drug Store in Thief River Falls.
Kip was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls where she was active in OWLS, Trinity Women and Trinity Troops. She was very social and loved socializing with her friends and other social groups. She loved cats, playing cards, bingo, board games, jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, and having coffee.
Survivors include her children, Mark (Nancy) Dalen of Manson, WA, Peggy (Bill) Hunter of Montrose, MN, Dean (Renae) Dalen of Thief River Falls and Todd (Marcy) Dalen of Warroad, MN; grandchildren, Suzan Dalen, Nicole Dalen, Marit Knutson, Derek Dalen, Mandy Harkess, Kim Emery, Katie Eaves, Diane Acker; ten great-grandchildren; sisters, Beverly Trygstad, Eilene Floura, and Beatrice (Jack) McGillivray; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alan on May 15, 1999; parents; sister, Delores Haugen; and brothers-in-law, Boyd Trygstad and Wayne Floura.
