Arlene Mathson, 74, of Erskine, MN passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, MN surrounded by her loving family. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Tim Lundeen and Rev John Golv officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Wednesday at the church. Arlene Sharon Mathson was born on October 11, 1940 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Clifford and Ingeborg (Geving) Vad. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. She attended Highlanding Country School through 8th grade, and graduated from Goodridge High School in 1958. On September 28, 1958, Arlene married Darryl Mathson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. They lived in Milwaukee, WI, and in 1967 the family moved to Minneapolis, MN where Arlene worked for Bell Telephone. In 1971 they moved to Forest Lake, MN and then in 1975 moved to Oklee, MN. In 1984 Arlene moved to Thief River Falls to work for C.E.T.A. and later at MN State Patrol. She later on transferred to Golden Valley, MN and continued working for the MN State Patrol and later for the B.C.A in St. Paul. She retired in February of 2003 and returned to live in Thief River Falls, until 2010 where she moved to the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine where she has since resided. Arlene always kept a beautiful, clean and well decorated home. She enjoyed music, dancing and working with crafts, flowers, gardening, knitting and refinishing furniture. Arlene's family was very important to her - she never missed a birthday or holiday. Spending time with her grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and friends was precious to her. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and was active with the Sarah Circle. Arlene is survived by children, Cindy (Mark) Nelson, Erskine, MN and Guy Mathson, Clearbrook, MN; grandchildren, Amy (Chad) Sperling, Travis (Shannon) Nelson, Krista (Andrew) Johnstad, Brent (Jenetta) Mathson, Kasie (Richard) Smith, and Bailey Mathson; great-grandchildren, Chasity Mathson, Malea Mathson, Tyler Mathson, Alexis Smith and Brock Johnstad; siblings, Laverne Vad, Ione (Norman) Nelson, Lester (Beulah) Vad, Betty (Milo) Sandeen, Judy Schmidt, Audrey (Dave) Hanson, Lynn (Laurie) Vad; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; infant children, Debra, Daniel and stillborn baby Mathson; grandson, Tyler Darryl Mathson; sister-in-law, Arlene Vad; brothers-in-law, Robert Hanson and Barry Schmidt; nephew, Christopher Schmidt.
