Arlene Benoit St. Marie, 85 longtime resident of Red Lake Falls passed away on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at Fair Meadow Nursing Home, Fertile, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Bob Schreiner officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery near Red Lake Falls.
Arlene was born August 30, 1937 in Argyle, MN the daughter of Albert and Olive (Bacon) Gruhot. She attended school in Argyle and Red Lake Falls, MN and after completing the eighth grade, Arlene helped her dad on the family farm.
On April 26, 1958, Arlene was married to Raymond Cash Benoit. On October 10, 1987, she married Raymond Philip St. Marie.
Arlene was a very dedicated hard worker. After helping on the family farm, she moved to Milwaukee, WI to seek employment and eventually moved back to Red Lake Falls where she was a cook at Blackies Café for years. She worked at Hillcrest Nursing Home as a cook and also in the nursing department, where she received an award. Arlene also was a cook at a few other restaurants as this was her passion. After retirement Arlene then managed Welle Apartments where she had been living.
She loved cooking, making embroidery dish towels and crochet hand towels, playing cards with family and friends laughing and cracking jokes, she was such a joy to be around, you could not be sad or upset if you were with Arlene, she had the most contagious laugh.
Survivors include children, Raymond Benoit Jr. of Mt. Vernon, WA, Lori (John) Ash of Sturgis, MI, Roland Benoit of Mt. Vernon, WA; step-children, Linda Yeager, Thomas St. Marie, and Mark St. Marie; grandchildren, Jessica Benoit, Ryan (Emily) Benoit, Crystal Ash, Anthony Ash, Amanda Ash, Tianna Benoit and Ava Benoit; great-grandchildren, Charlize, Scarlett, Chandler, Tenzlee, Stella, Madison, Daison and Brayden; brothers and sisters, Ronald Gruhot, Gale (Darlene) Gruhot, Adele Theis, Verna (Ed) Smith, Linda Gruhot; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Raymond Benoit; second husband, Raymond St. Marie; siblings, Carol (Bill) Lee, Judy Gruhot, Karen Nelson, Larry Gruhot; step-children, Robert and John St. Marie.
