Arlo Scholin, age 84 of Thief River Falls, MN died on Monday, December 17, 2012 at his residence in the arms of his loving wife, Erna. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 21, 2012 at Black River Lutheran Church, rural St. Hilaire, MN. Burial will follow in Black River Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Arlo August Scholin was born on February 22, 1928 in Warren, Minnesota the son of Sven August and Alvina Theresia (Erickson) Scholin. He was baptized March 12, 1928 at Black River Lutheran Church and confirmed in 1942 Black River Lutheran Church. Arlo received an Advanced Certificate from the University of Minnesota's Northwest School of Agriculture (AC), Crookston, MN on March 23, 1945. On June 30, 1957, Arlo was united in marriage to Erna Carol Flatgard at Salem Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, Minnesota. He did seasonal farm work in Humboldt, MN; bulldozing and ditching contracting; mechanic work; and farming practice on their Century Farm in Bray Township. Arlo enjoyed playing pinochle in Texas, golfing, bowling, and was a master pancake maker for his grandchildren. He was creative as an inventor and tinkerer; was quiet and humble, enjoyed traveling the United States extensively, Canada, Mexico, Alaska, Norway, and Sweden. Arlo was a member of the Black River Lutheran Church. He served on the Black River Lutheran Church Board for many years, Bray Township Board for many years, Investment Club Treasurer for nearly 20 years, St. Hilaire Elevator Co-op Board member for many years, University of Minnesota/Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station Farm Family of the Year, Pennington County in 1996, and received the Minnesota RRVDA Valley Farmer & Homemaker Award, March 1, 2003. Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Erna Carol (Flatgard) Scholin of rural Thief River Falls; 2 Children, Jocy Carol (Scholin) Teske, husband Greg of North Oaks, MN and Thomas August Scholin, wife Lucy of rural Thief River Falls, MN; 3 grandchildren, Reed J Teske, Darian Carol Teske, & Kayden Anton Scholin; sisters: Elna (Scholin) Lindblom of Clearwater, FL; and many relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Leroy and Einar Scholin, nieces and nephews Sharon, Duane, Denise, Donna, Alvin, and Taylor. As Arlo would say, "Thanks for stopping by"
