Obituary

Arneida Mathieu, 93, died on Monday, August 27, 2007 at the Presbyterian Nursing Home, Lake Minnetonka, Spring Park, MN.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM, Friday, August 31, 2007 at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls with Rev. Phil Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 Thursday, August 30, 2007 at the Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.

Arneida Gladys Peters was born on July 8, 1914 in Yankton, SD, the daughter of William and Josephine (Lodes) Peters, who farmed in the area. The Peters family moved to the Thief River Falls vicinity in the mid-1930's, where Arneida met Milton Charles Mathieu and they subsequently married on May 7, 1937. They farmed in Pennington County until moving to Thief River Falls in 1945. They relocated to Babbitt, MN for the period 1965-1981, returning to Thief River Falls after Milton's retirement from Reserve Mining Company. She eventually moved to Hopkins, MN, where she has lived since 1999.

Arneida enjoyed her role as parent and homemaker, and was renowned for her skills in quilting, sewing, and baking. She was a long time active member of the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls and its Women's Circle.

She is survived by five sons: Ron, Canon City, CO; Ken (Lori), Pueblo, CO, Don (Penny), Minnetonka, MN; Allen (Susie), St. Louis, MO; and Dave (Stella), Lakeville, MN; daughter in law Lorraine, Thief River Falls, MN; 14 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, three brothers: Vernon Peters, Portland, OR; Clarence, Goodridge, MN; and Ray, St. Paul, MN.

Arneida was preceded in death by her husband Milton, one son Bill, three sisters, and one brother.
