Obituary

Arnold Wallace Boman, Thief River Falls, MN, 71, passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2020 surrounded by his loving family at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

A Funeral Service to honor Arnie will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 5, 2020 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with Rev. Ale Tulu officiating.  CDC guidelines will be followed.  Burial will be held at the Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.

Arnie Boman was born on February 3, 1949 at the Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Wallace and Violet (Swenson) Boman.  He was baptized, confirmed, and an active member of Sunday School and Luther League at Silver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Thief River Falls, MN.  Arnie graduated from Lincoln High School, the class of 1967.

Following high school Arnie attended the AVTI, receiving an Associate Degree in electronics.

In December of 1969 he was drafted into the U.S. Army.  He completed basic training at Ft. Lewis, Washington and Armor Reconnaissance Specialist Course at Armor NCO Candidate School, Ft. Knox, Kentucky.  Arnie was deployed to Vietnam with the 11 th Armored Calvary Regiment, F Troop, in December of 1970 and served until May 1971, when severely wounded in action.  He was discharged in September of 1972 when he was released from the Fitzsimons General Hospital, Denver, Colorado.

Arnie received the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 Device, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar (M-16), and 2 nd Class Badge with Machine Gun Bar (M-60).

Upon being discharged he attended Moorhead State University and returned to the family farm in rural Thief River Falls where he remained until his passing.

Arnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, reading, and gardening.  He was a wonderful uncle to his nieces and nephews, and a great brother and friend.

Arnie is survived by his brothers, Brian (Myrna) Boman of Alto, NM, and Paul Boman of Chattanooga, TN; nieces and nephews, Troy Austad of Oklee, MN, Kellie Austad of Newark, TX, Kari Wilde of Pottsboro,TX, Robert (Lisa) Boman of Winter Garden, FL, Michael (Christine) Boman of Cape Coral, FL, and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded death by his parents; sister, Joyce Austad and nephew, Rory Austad.

Pallbearers are Doug Johnson, Don Johnson, Bill Galliher, Dwight Corbeil, Leonard  Kotta, and

Stephen Holm.
