Obituary

Arnold H. Larson, 84, died Sunday, June 26, 2005 at Karlstad Healthcare Center, Karlstad, MN.

Arnold Herbert Larson was born July 8, 1920 at Karlstad, MN, the son of Andrew and Hannah (Sjogren) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Strandquist, MN. He grew up and attended school in Strandquist. He worked for the railroad.

Arnold served his country as a radio operator in the United States Army. He entered the Army September 14, 1942 and was engaged in battles at Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rom-Arno, Northern Apennines and Po Valley. He was honorably discharged October 26, 1945. For his service he was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Service Medal, 4 overseas service bars and Bronze Service Arrowhead. Following his discharge he worked in Minneapolis.

On December 6, 1947, Arnold was united in marriage to Vernice Aune in Spruce Valley Township, MN. The couple farmed in New Maine Township all their lives on the Sjogren Homestead. He also worked as a substitute mail carrier for many years.

Arnold served years as Township Supervisor and was a member of the American Legion in Newfolden. He enjoyed farming, cattle, playing cards, listening and dancing to music and going to Army reunions. He liked giving his grandkids 4-wheeler rides and vacation to him was going to the sale barn. He especially liked visiting with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Vernice, Newfolden, MN; children, Jim (Marsha), Blaine, MN, Don (Gail), Newfolden, MN, Sybil (Ken) Cwikla, Middle River, MN, Sue (Tom) Dondelinger, Thief River Falls, MN, Kari (Todd) Jesme, Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren Bryce and Rachel Larson, Sarah, Andy and Josh Larson, Shane, Lauren, Joey and Evan Dondelinger, Collin and Taylor Jesme; great grandchild Michael Dondelinger; brother Stanley Larson, Newfolden; sister Shirley Lefrooth, Strandquist and several nephews and nieces.

Arnold is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Richard and Robert; sister Evelyn Chwialkowski; 3 nephews and 1 niece.
