OBITUARY FOR ARTHUR FROILAND
PLUMMER, MN
Arthur Froiland, 90, died on Friday, March 15, 2002 at Northwest Medical Center in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Reverend Frank Ehling officiating. Burial will be in Emardville Cemetery, Emardville Township.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the Johnson Funeral Service at Red Lake Falls, MN with a 7:30 P.M. prayer service on Tuesday evening and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
Arthur Froiland was born on June 14, 1911 in Plummer, Minnesota, the son of Johan and Ida (Erickson) Froiland. He was baptized on July 30, 1911 and confirmed on October 11, 1925 at Little Immanuel Lutheran Church rural Plummer. He attended Cloverland Country School through 8th grade and Crookston AC for one year.
On July 25, 1943 Art was united in marriage to Avis Sorenson at Salem Lutheran Church, Oklee, MN. The couple farmed for many years on the family farm. In 1968, his son Rick and wife Arlene Took over the farm, Art and Avis moved into Plummer and he continued to work at the Plummer Elevator.
Art enjoyed going back to the farm to watch the crops and animals grow. He loved spending time with Avis making donuts and tying quilts. He also enjoyed hunting deer and watching sports, especially watching his grandchildren play. Family, church, friends and the community were an important part of Arts life.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, School Board member, Lions Club and Community Club member and held offices in these organizations. He was also sexton of Emardville Cemetery since 1965. Arthur was known as the coffeemaker or Mr. Coffee for many events.
Art is survived by his wife, Avis; one son, Richard (Arlene) of Plummer, MN; one daughter, Marie Foster and her friend Bill Swick of St. Paul, MN; eight grandchildren: Dean (Leichen) Foster, Bloomington, IN, Beth Foster, St. Paul, MN, Mike (Ginger) Foster, Osakis, MN, Greg Foster, Shreveport, LA, Jerilee (Ben) Carpenter, Fargo, ND, Kerry (Griffin) Newland, Thief River Falls, MN, Shannon (Mike) Nelson, Lakota, ND and Ginger Froiland, Thief River Falls, MN; eight great grandchildren: Katherine and Bradley Foster, Katelyn and Danielle Foster, Lexi Carpenter, Derick and Jarin Newland and Dayton Nelson; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Albert, Pete, Helmer, Henry, Ben and Bill; and five sisters: Clara, Ann, Alma, Mabel and Bertha.
