Audrey Elaine Columbus was born June 6, 1930 in Wadena County, MN to Gustav & Violet (Bauer) Mundinger. She grew up in the Nimrod area with fond memories of long days spent in the nearby river. She graduated in 1948 from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls, MN. She then attended one year of nurses training in Chicago, Il. In 1950, she married Bernard Columbus, taking on the loving duties of raising his four children. Soon to follow, five more children were added to the family. Together they farmed near Red Lake Falls until they sold the farm to their son Bruce in 1996. In 1999 they bought a new home and moved into town. After Bernard died in February of 2008, Audrey moved into Sunview Center where she resided until November of 2010. She then moved to Greenleaf Assisted Living in Thief River Falls, MN. In November of 2011, she moved to Pioneer Memorial Care in Erskine, MN. Audrey enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, fishing at their cabin on Lake of the Woods, knitting, baking, flower gardening and canning. Nothing was more satisfying to her than looking at the rows and rows of canned goods lined up on the shelves in the fall. One of her passions was playing cards, especially with her family. She was a collector of music boxes, Hummel figurines and owned a host of angels. Audrey was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a great supporter of St Joseph School where all her children attended. Survivors include her nine children: Barbara (Roger) Howard of Staples, MN; Ron (Marilyn) Columbus of Sandy, Utah; Phyllis (Richard) Larson of Red Lake Falls, MN; John Columbus of Red Lake Falls; Nancy (Arlie) Garrabrant of Roanoke, VA; Mike (Bernice) Columbus, Debra (Ralph) Perreault, Bruce (Pam) Columbus all of Red Lake Falls, MN; Chris (Gary) Markestad of Fort Worth, TX. Thirty Grandchildren: Paul (Chia) Howard, David Howard, Jim (Karen) Howard, Karla Miller, Audra Loveless, Steve (Brenda) Wanke, Sue Graham, Rick Wanke, Jenny Steenerson, Brian (Deb) Steenerson, Wendy (Jeff) Anderson, Amy (Paul) Gaebe, Duanna (Chris) Fike, Dawn (Brad) Swenson, Pieter Garrabrant, Heidi Garrabrant, Tina (Dan)Taus, Richie (Eva)Columbus, Britney Columbus, Nathan(Jolene) Schue, Justin Schue, Bill (Kristen) Perreault, Angie (Brad) Owens, Becky (Paul) Peterson, Keri (Dave) Dornbusch, Katie (Cory) Edwards, Cassie & Breanna Columbus, Claire (Shane) Hastings & Kyle Markestad, Forty nine great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. One brother: Keith (Dorothy) Mundinger of Mille Lacs, MN. Two sisters: Sandy (Al) Pennock of Riverton, Wy; Judy Witt of Little Falls, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers: Richard, Larry; two sisters: Mona and Dona. Audrey Columbus died Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center at the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 20 days. May her memory be blessed. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls, MN. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Red Lake Falls. Visitation will take place on Monday, January 30, 2012 from 5:00 - 8:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Red Lake Falls.
