Avis LaCoe, 87, died on Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, January 17, 2011 at St. Bernards Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Bernards Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be Sunday 4-7 PM with a Prayer Service at 5:00 PM at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Monday.

Avis Rae Curtis was born as Florence Moore on May 24, 1923 at Minneapolis, MN, to George E. Moore and Norma Cambias. At the age of two she was adopted by John B. and Helen Curtis. As a young girl she grew up in the Plummer area. She attended school at Plummer and Thief River Falls, MN. When she was a teenager, Avis worked at Hunts Grocery Store.

On June 19, 1939, Avis was united in marriage to Bernard Joseph LaCoe in Thief River Falls. They made their home all of their married life in Thief River Falls. In the early 1950s and 60s she worked at the S & L Store. She then worked at the concessions in the Woolworths Store until the early 1970s.

Avis enjoyed crafts, sewing, croquet and bowling. Avis and Bernard also enjoyed camping and traveling and would winter in Texas for many years. She was a lifelong member of St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls.

Avis is survived by four children, Diane Lazarczyk, Lancaster, CA, Sharon (Roger) Dahlquist, Fontana, CA, Jean (James) Reek, Thief River Falls, MN and Jerome (Patti) LaCoe, Thief River Falls, MN; 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren;
