Avis B. Nelson,age 86 of Newfolden, MN died on Sunday, August 9, 2015 at Sanford Hospital, Fargo, ND with her loving family at her side. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, August 14, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN with Rev. Cathie Rhodes officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Newfolden, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday. Avis Bonita Belle Lee was born on September 28, 1928 in Newfolden, MN the daughter of Hjalmer and Alma (Blinsmon) Lee. The Lee family moved to New Maine Township near Newfolden, MN when she was young and later into the town of Newfolden where she attended school. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN. Avis worked various places in the Newfolden area including the Anderson Café, Stan Holmaas Grocery, and potato harvest for Kenneth Setterholm. She also babysat for her grandchildren for many years and worked for her daughter-in-law, Diane at the Nu Moon Café in Newfolden. Avis dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. On July 31, 1948 Avis was united in marriage to Marvin Nelson in Newfolden, MN by Rev. Myhrer and the couple continued to live in Newfolden. To this union two sons were born, Gerald and Barry. Avis enjoyed fishing, going to the casino once in a while, playing bingo and cards, watching the Minnesota Twins, visiting, would make soup for her family every Sunday, and especially enjoyed visiting and spending time with her family and friends. Christmas was a special time of year for Avis; she loved giving gifts. Avis was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN. Survivors include her sons, Gerald (Diane) Nelson of Newfolden, MN and Barry (Cheryl) Nelson of Newfolden, MN; grandchildren, Nathan (Nicole) Nelson of Newfolden, MN, Natalie (David) Lind of Newfolden, MN, Chad (Erica) Nelson of Viking, MN and Tara (Jeremy) Nelson of Thief River Falls, MN; great-grandchildren, Tucker, Sawyer, Colten, Cailey, Marissa, Alexander, Kieran, EmmaRae and Ethan; sister, Betty Nelson of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Gloria Lee of Thief River Falls, MN; and many other relatives and friends including Marvin's brothers and sisters and their families. She is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 2008; brothers, Jasper (Phyllis) Lee, Avery (Doris) Lee and Vernon Lee; and brothers-in-law, Provencer Berg and Alfred Nelson.
