Barbara Harmoning, 69, died on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Gary Graff officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, March 14, 2008 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Friday evening and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Barbara Ann Stevens was born on September 17, 1938 in Sisseton, SD, the daughter of Orlando and Selma Sally (Hoem) Stevens. She was baptized at Buffalo Lake Church and confirmed at Lake City Lutheran Church in Lake City, SD. Barbara attended Lake City, SD Elementary School, graduating from Sisseton High School. She attended and graduated from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. Barbara taught school in South Dakota for two years, before moving to Thief River Falls and taught for four years. She then moved to Red Lake Falls, teaching for 23 years, retiring in 1999. She continued to substitute teach in Red Lake Falls, Plummer, Thief River Falls and Fertile until recently.

Barbara was united in marriage to Roger Harmoning on June 14, 1964 at Lake City Lutheran Church in Lake City, SD. Following their wedding, Barbara joined Roger on the Harmoning family farm four miles east of Red Lake Falls. It was there they raised their three children, Ruth, Renae and Michael.

She enjoyed gardening, ice fishing, cross stitching, playing Bingo, cross word puzzles, and traveling. Barbara especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren and visiting with friends, family, and former students. She was an active member of many civic organizations including: Delta Kappa Gamma, Retired Teachers, Inter County Nursing Board, Concert Series Board, Hill Crest Auxiliary, Red Lake Co. Extension Board, Red Lake Co. Economic Development Committee, Red Lake Co. N.F.O, Bethany Church Board, Sunday School Teacher, WELCA, DFL, and 4-H.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Roger of Red Lake Falls, MN; three children: Ruth Larsen of Minnetonka, MN, Renae Harmoning of Thief River Falls, MN and Michael (Lesley) Harmoning of Red Lake Falls, MN; two grandchildren: Lauren Larsen and Daphne Harmoning; her father, Orlando Stevens of Britton, SD; brothers and sisters: Ellen Haertl of Seattle, WA, Raymond Stevens of Brattleboro, VT, Lila Nelson of Brattleboro, and Donald Stevens of Seattle, WA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Selma.
