Barry Everett Fellman, 80, of Thief River Falls, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
Barry was born on July 20, 1946, in Hallock, Minnesota, to Everett and Irene (Hooker) Matthew and was later adopted by Winton Fellman. He grew up in northwestern Minnesota and attended Lincoln High School before furthering his education through vocational school.
Barry was united in marriage to Nancy E. Dicken, and together they built a life centered on family, faith, and creating lasting memories. Barry proudly volunteered for the City of Thief River Falls Fire Department from March 1967 -1987 and became a full-time fireman in August 1971 to July 31st, 2000. He served as a Co-Fire Chief from 1997 until his retirement with the city, dedicating himself to serving and protecting his community. Barry also enjoyed helping his friends and coworkers build their houses. There was never a job too big that he would not help with.
Barry found his greatest joy in the outdoors and in the company of those he loved. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time at the family cabin “Lohio Lodge” that he built. Barry was a member of The Old Timers Hockey Team in Thief River Falls where he enjoyed the tournaments in Winnipeg. Barry spent countless hours watching and coaching his grandchildren’s activities. More than anything, Barry treasured the time he was able to spend with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed teasing his grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, enjoying family gatherings, or simply spending time together, he took great pride in his family and cherished every moment.
Barry is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Nancy E. Fellman; daughter, Vicki (Mike) Torgerson; son, Steven (Linda) Fellman; grandchildren, Danielle (Jake) Spiten, Ashley (Drew) Seeger, Brady (Mickey) Meunier, Murphy (Sara) Fellman, Gunnar Fellman, Jordan (Brandi) Torgerson, Mariah (Brian) Hruby, and Kaleb Torgerson; great-grandchildren, Kenzie Miller, Aurora Seeger, Orion Seeger, Barry Meunier, Silas Seeger, Harrison Spiten, Leif Spiten, Hattie Hruby, Soraya Hruby, Maizie Meunier, Laynie Torgerson, and Morgan Torgerson; brothers, Warren (Nancy) Fellman and Shawn (Lisa) Fellman; along with many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Winton and Irene Fellman and Everett Matthew; sisters, Rosemarie Matthew and Helen Victor; parents-in-law, Arthur and Iris Dicken; aunt, Katherine Hallberg; and brother-in-law, Curtis Ness.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 9, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls with Reverend Kristin Ostercamp officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Barry will be remembered for his dedication to family, his love of the outdoors, his years of service to his community, and the kindness and friendship he extended to all who knew him. His memory will be treasured by his family and friends for generations to come.
