Bergit Sordahl, 94, died Monday, November 5, 2007 at First Care Medical Services, Fosston, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, November 9, 2007 at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail, MN with Pastor Michael Sletto officiating. Burial will follow at the Valle Cemetery, rural Trail, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, November 8, 2007 with a 7:00 PM prayer service at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral.

Bergit Olivia Person was born August 9, 1913 on the Person family farm in Polk County, MN near Oklee, MN the daughter Aanund and Anne (Omlid) Person. She was baptized and confirmed at the Valle Lutheran Church in Chester Township, Polk County.

She attended Fairview 13 Country School in Equality Township, attended high school in Trail, Brainerd and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1932. She graduated from Bemidji College.

In November, 1934, Bergit was united in marriage to Gunder Sordahl at the parsonage in Oklee, MN and they made their home in the Oklee area. To this union there were four children born, Marilyn, Helen, Gloria and Gaylen. The family also lived in Duluth, MN and Elma, WA where she taught school for eleven years before retiring back to Trail, Minnesota in 1974. In 1980 they moved to a farm in Johnson Township, Polk County, MN with their son, Gaylen. Gunder died in 1987. Bergit entered First Care Nursing Home in Fosston on January 1, 2001.

She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening, baking and spending time outdoors. She was a member of Valle Lutheran Church until it closed and later joined Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail, MN. She was also a member of the Trail VFW Auxiliary #6426.

Survivors include three children, Marilyn Halvorson of Trail, MN, Helen Sordahl and Gaylen Sordahl both of Gully, MN; three grandchildren, Denise (Bruce) Peterson of Oklee, MN, Brenda (Kelly) Dahlen of Goodridge, MN and Kurt (Janet) Halvorson of Oklee, MN, eight great grandchildren, Kristin Halvorson, Cody (Andrea) Halvorson, Brent Halvorson, Michelle Halvorson, Angie Peterson, Kasey Dahlen, Courtney Halvorson, and Dustin Peterson; one great, great granddaughter, Ava Halvorson; two brothers and one sister, Gladis Winkler of El Cajon, CA, Arnold (Carolyn) Person of Oklee, MN and Ralph (Joanne) Person of Olympia, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gunder in 1987; daughter, Gloria in 1962; son-in-law, Dennis Halvorson in 1990; her parents; one brother, Olaf Elmer in 1998; one great-grandson, Cole Dahlen in 2005.
