Bernard LaCoe, 93 , died on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:30 PM, Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be at St. Bernards Catholic Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be 5-8 PM on Monday, November 22, 2010 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at St. Bernards on Tuesday.

Bernard Joseph LaCoe was born September 16, 1917 at Thief River Falls, MN, the son of Eugene and Matilda (Fontaine) LaCoe. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Bernards Church, Thief River Falls. He attended school in Thief River Falls. He served his country in the United States Navy and received his honorable discharge in 1946. He spent much of his time in the jungles of Guam.

On June 19, 1939, Bernard was united in marriage to Avis Rae Curtis. When he returned home from the service Barney worked on the CC Camps. He later was hired on the Great Northern Railroad and was a car man with the Soo Line Railroad for 33 years, before retiring in the early 1980s.

Bernard was a lifetime member of the VFW, Thief River Falls. He enjoyed fishing, hunting deer and working in his garage. He and his wife Avis did a lot of camping and traveling.

Bernard is survived by his wife Avis, Thief River Falls, MN; by 4 children, Diane Lazarczyk, Lancaster, CA, Sharon (Roger) Dahlquist, Fontana, CA, Jean (James) Reek, Thief River Falls, MN and Jerome (Patti) LaCoe, Thief River Falls, MN; 14 grandchildren, many great grandchildren; sister, Pearl Battleson, Thief River Falls, MN.

Preceded in death by parents and brother, Ernest LaCoe.
