Bernice LaFayette, age 96 and resident of Plummer, MN, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on July 31, 2014. Funeral service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, August 4, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, MN, with Reverend Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Emardville Cemetery, rural Plummer. Visitation will be held from 4-6 PM, Sunday August 3, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service, Red Lake Falls, MN with a 6 PM Prayer Service and for one hour prior to the service at the church, Monday. Bernice Lorraine Marsonette was born on July 22, 1918 in Terrebonne, MN, the daughter of Ferdinand and Alma (Grimm) Marsonette. She attended country school near Terrebonne. On March 31, 1934 Bernice was married to Ervin Engesether. To this marriage there were seven children: June, Gerald, Marvin, Allen, LeRoy, Robert, and Sharon. In 1962 Bernice was united in marriage to Leonard Peterson. They made their home in the Plummer, MN area. Leonard passed away in April of 1999. Bernice married Howard LaFayette in January 2002. The couple also made their home in Plummer. Howard died in 2012. Bernice continued to live in their home. Bernice loved to travel - seeing most of the United States. One of her favorite past times was fishing. She also enjoyed going to rummage sales, cooking and baking, and spending time with her family. Bernice was a hard-working, loving mother and grandmother who will be missed dearly. She is survived by her children, Gerald Engesether of Wichita Falls, TX, Marvin Engesether of Plummer, MN, LeRoy (Phyllis) Engesether of Bemidji, MN, Robert (Christine) Engesether of Fridley, MN, and Sharon (Todd Riggle) Laniel of Denver, CO; step-children, Lorna (Merle) Jesme of Thief River Falls, MN, Janet (Duane) Torkelson of Milwaukee, WI, Milton (Janice) Peterson of Belle Plaine, MN, Allan Peterson of Blaine, MN; 18 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 20 great great-grandchildren; numerous step great-grandchildren and step great great-grandchildren; sister, Eleanor Christianson of Oklee, MN; many, many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; children, Allen and June; husbands, Leonard and Howard; and brothers, Harvey, LaVerne, Wallace, and Roland.
