Betty Coan, of Thief River Falls, MN, formerly of Goodridge, MN, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, with her daughters by her side, at the age of 91.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will take place from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.  Visitation will also take place one hour prior to the funeral service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Betty Mae (Stenvik) Coan was born on September 7, 1929 at home on the family farm in Reiner Township, Pennington County, the daughter of Reuben and Florence (Rindahl) Stenvik.  She attended Lundwood Country School close to her home and high school in Goodridge, MN.

On May 2, 1948 she was united in marriage to James Thomas Coan at Rosendahl Church, near her home, with Rev. O. O. Bjorgan officiating.  Together they made their home on their farm in Reiner Township where they raised cattle and small grains.  To this union three children were born, Judy, Becky, and Connie.

Betty worked on the farm and 30 plus years at the Land O' Lakes Turkey Plant.  Throughout her life she also sold Princess House crystal and Avon.

Betty enjoyed playing cards and games with her grandchildren, visiting neighbors, snowmobiling with her neighbor ladies, and attending town hall dances with her husband, James…their favorite song being the "Blue Skirt Waltz."

Betty is survived by her daughters, Judy (Roger) Larson of Strandquist, MN, and Becky (Tom) Scheef of Belfield, ND; grandchildren, LouAnn Larson of Greenbush, MN, Brian Larson of Thief River Falls, MN, Jeremy Larson of Thief River Falls, MN, Jim (Julie) Scheef of Fisher, MN, Travis (Sara) Scheef of Thief River Falls, MN, and Cole (Kaylani Kiesow) Scheef of Goodridge, MN; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Megan Rux, Jordan, Carter, and Hilde Larson, Halle and Lydia Scheef, Bria and Blake Scheef, James and Jack Scheef, and Chelsey Johnson; brother-in-law, Curtis Vraa of Embarrass, MN; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James of 62 years; two daughters – an infant daughter and Connie Faye; her parents, Reuben and Florence Stenvik; granddaughter, Kimberly Larson; sisters, Adeline Peterson and her husband, Glenn and Laurie Vraa; her brother, Robert Stenvik; and several nieces and nephews.
