Betty Jorde, 90, of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2020 at her residence.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN.

Betty Jane Christensen was born on July 5, 1929 in Larson, ND the daughter of Edwin and Harriet (Reller) Christensen. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith and when Betty was very young, her family relocated to Thief River Falls, MN where she was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. She attended school in Thief River Falls graduating from Lincoln High School with the class of 1947. Following high school, Betty worked for the telephone company in Thief River Falls.

On September 14, 1951, Betty was united in marriage to Chester Jorde at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. To this union a son, Gary was born in 1952 and in 1955 the family moved to Chicago, IL where there second son, Bruce was born in 1960.

Betty worked for Standard Oil/Amoco for many years retiring in 1990. Following her retirement, Betty and Chester relocated back to Thief River Falls where they continued to reside.

Betty was very strong in the Lutheran faith and was an active member of Abundant Life Lutheran Church. She enjoyed spending time at their cabin at Lake of the Woods, fishing, ice fishing, playing cards, oil painting, traveling, enjoyed visiting with family and friends and loved time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Betty had a great sense of humor and loved a good story. Everyone benefitted from her cooking and baking; the coffee pot was always on.

Survivors include two children, Gary (Joan) Jorde of Grand Forks, ND and Bruce Jorde of Thief River Falls, MN, two grandchildren, Joshua (Heather) Jorde of Mahtomedi, MN and Suzanne (Cory) Friend of Bristol, WI; great-grandchildren, Evan & Mia Jorde, Grayson, Corbin & Ellie Friend; siblings, Donna (Lysle) Martinson, Bob (Joyce) Christensen, Dean (Joan) Christensen and Jerry (Anne) Christensen; sister-in-law, Marilyn Christensen; and many other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester in 2002; and brother, Dale Christensen.
