Betty (Lee/Berg) Nelson passed away at Thief River Care center on June 23, 2022.

Funeral service for Betty will be held 1 PM on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Timothy Lundeen officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Opdahl Cemetery near Newfolden, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Monday.

Betty was born and raised in Newfolden, MN  to Alma and Hjalmer Lee on February 3, 1933.

She is preceded in Death by Provencer Berg, Alfred Nelson, her parents Alma and Hjalmer Lee as well as her brother Vernon Lee, brother Avery Lee and sister-in- law  Doris Lee, brother Jasper Lee and sister-in-law Phyllis Lee, and her only sister Avis (Lee) Nelson and brother-in-law Marvin Nelson.

Betty was married to Provencer Berg and had three children:  Vickie Berg, Bruce Berg and Tammy (Berg) Engelstad.

Many years after Provencer passed away Betty married Alfred Nelson of Newfolden.

Betty retired from the Newfolden Machine Shop where she worked as a machinist.  She loved that job and often said so up until her last days. She missed working very much. For fun she loved going to the casino and playing bingo.

When asked recently what, if anything, brings her the most joy she said her grandchildren and calls from her two daughters.

Betty has 6 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Her days at the Care Center and at Valley Home were very lonely for her.  Thankfully, her sister-in-law Gloria Lee and her niece Rhonda Joppru did visit her regularly and Betty very much appreciated those visits.

Betty's life was not always easy but she always picked herself up, provided for her children and carried on.  Even in the last couple years of her life battling cancer and a broken hip as well as many other falls, she carried on. She was a strong woman, a wonderful sister to Avis, and a loving mother to her children.

She will be deeply missed.
