She was baptized at Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eldridge, ND on September 26, 1926 and was confirmed on June 1, 1941 at Trinity Forman Lutheran Church. She attended school from 1st grade to 12th grade at Forman School. Betty met Ed on a blind date, and on October 25, 1963 they were united in marriage at Trinity Lutheran Church in Forman, ND. She started working at Sears in Minneapolis in 1948 and worked there until 1963 when she and Ed became married. In 1965, they moved to Thief River Falls, MN and lived on a farm. Mom enjoyed being a stay at home mom when they moved to Minnesota. They moved to another farm by St. Hilaire in 1970. Betty loved to sew clothes for her daughter Audrey. She also enjoyed her vegetable gardens and going on bike rides with Audrey. She would make lunches and bring out to Ed while he was in the field working. She loved to bake buns, cookies, breads, bars and send to relatives and share with friends, too. Ed and Audrey loved the homemade buns and so did her extended family. Later on, mom helped dad babysit their granddaughter Megan and did this for 14 years. In addition to these interests, she enjoyed taking care of her children's dogs from 2007-2013. Mom would cook for grandson Josh after school, mostly during high school years. He was her joy. She enjoyed attending Josh's football games, programs, and was one of the loudest cheerleaders when he graduated from Lincoln High School in May of 2013. Her family and friends were the most important part of her life. She is survived by her loving daughter, Audrey Halvorson; former son-in-law Jeff Halvorson; the apple of her eye and joy of her life and grandson, Josh Halvorson; four siblings, Bob Korngiebel of Kenai, Alaska, Harriet Rogers of Mohave Valley, Arizona; Shirley Korngiebel of Pasadena, CA, Mary (Ken) Larson of Mazzepa, MN; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Edward Nicholls; parents Robert and Ida Korngiebel and step-dad Owen Christensen; grandparents Andrew and Martha Korngiebel and Wilhelm and Bertha Buetow; sister Marjorie (Carl) Lange; brother Wayne Korngiebel; grandchildren Matthew and Megan Halvorson, and several other relatives.
