Obituary

William Meyer, 52, of rural Holt, MN died at his home on Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Sheila Michaels officiating. William Guy Meyer was born on June 26, 1959 in Wurzburg, Germany, the son of Charles and Claire Meyer, a military family stationed overseas in Germany. Bill lived in several locations as his father was stationed and transferred to different bases throughout his military career. The family eventually settling down in Renton, Washington, where Bill would spend his childhood and formative years and graduating from high school. On January 2, 1977, Bill enlisted in the National Guard and went on active duty September 26, 1977. While in the military, Bill was stationed in Germany at several bases where he enjoyed exploring the country of his birth that always fascinated him. While in the military, Bill achieved several awards including the overseas service ribbon, good conduct medal, the M-16 sharpshooter award, and hand grenade expert. Bill was an Army medical specialist and had many interesting stories of his military career. Bill was honorably discharged from the military as a Spec. 4 on March 26, 1984. After the military discharge, Bill worked several jobs and got his foot in the door of radio in the Seattle area at a local radio station. In 1992, Bill moved with his wife and step daughter to Thief River Falls, MN where he resumed working in radio at TRF radio and became well known and liked as a local celebrity. With Bill there was not a shortage of the gift of gab and radio truly fit the bill for him to express himself where ever he could. Music was another avenue of pursuit, and he accumulated a sizeable collection of vinyl, cassettes, and compact discs. In 2001, Bill left radio and started work at Digikey Corp. until he was released from employment there due to a kidney transplant. After the transplantation life changed for Bill as he was not able to be employed and went on disability until his untimely death. Bill was married twice and to these two unions no children were born. He leaves behind two ex-wives and four step children and loads of friends to mourn his passing. Locally step children Desiree Dillon, Mike Dillon, Jim Dillon, one grandchild Ayden Dillon. Brothers and sisters, Thomas & Sue Meyer, Algona, WA, Charles "Chuck" & Joy Meyer, Auburn, WA, Brian & Carol Johnson, Renton, WA, Molly Saelee, Auburn, WA, and nine nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his mother and father Claire & Charles Meyer.
