On March 17, 1936, Billy was born to Richard and Alta (Weckwerth) Peterson at Thief River Falls, MN. He was raised in Plummer, MN, where he attended school, graduating in 1954. Billy was also known as William. Following his schooling, Billy enlisted in the United States Army, serving for three years. When he returned to Plummer, Billy began working with his family on the farm.
Over the years, the farm eventually became Billy's. His brother, Tom, and Billy raised registered milking Short Horn cows. In about 1995, Billy and Tom retired from the dairy business. Billy continued to live on the farm, renting the land out. In the fall of 2018, Billy left the farm to receive additional medical care.
Bowling, watching the MN Twins, deer hunting, learning about area news, and raising and caring for animals were some of his favorite things to do. Billy was an active member of the American Legion Post 623, serving as Treasurer for many years; for many years, he was active in Red Lake County 4-H. Attending Immanuel Lutheran Church was very meaningful to him as he ushered and assisted various duties. He served as Clerk for Wyandotte Township, Pennington County, Minnesota, for over 30 years. His greatest joy and pride were watching his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and nephews grow up and see their accomplishments.
Billy is survived by: sisters, Mildred Klamar, Gatzke, MN; Rose Marie "Rosie" Fulton, Warren, MN; nieces and nephews: Brent (Laurie) Klamar, Merlin (Carol) Klamar, Julie (Matt) Smith, Kari (Dean) Dolezal, Michele (Rich) Diehl, and Kelly (Bryan) Domier; several great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Those who precede Billy in death are his parents, brother Tom, and sister, Laura, three brothers-in-law, Roland Klamar, Paul Klamar, and Don Fulton; two nephews and one niece.
