Birger Borg, 87, died on Friday, July 21, 2006 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Aaron Zuch officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Middle River, MN.

Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, July 24, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Monday evening and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Knute Birger Valdemar Borg was born on November 11, 1918 in a log house near Skime, MN, in Grass Township, the son of Par Otto and Ebba (Settersrom) Borg. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church in 2005. He attended Country School.

Birger was united in marriage on September 11, 1943 to Florence Kolden in Holt, MN. To this union five children were born, Rudy, Marlo, Ronald, Mona and Gary. The couple bought a farm in Holt Township in 1942. In the late 1940s and Birger was the Holt Town constable. He logged in the winter near Morris Camp and farmed in the summer and farmed many years on the Refuge, he also raised sheep. In 1967 Birger went to work running the maintenance for Marshall County, out of Holt, where he worked until he retired.

Birger loved to go fishing at Lake of the Woods, hunting, traveling and playing cards, but dancing was his favorite, he was a very good dancer.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, and the Eagless Club in Thief River Falls.

Birger is survived by his five children: Rudy Borg of Middle River, MN, Marlo (Bob) Engen of Newfolden, MN, Ronald (Michelle) Borg of Denver, CO, Mona (Brad) Olson of Newfolden, MN and Gary (Cindy) Borg of Newfolden, MN; seven grandchildren: Nancy (Jay) Gillund of Newfolden, MN, Wayne Engen of Newfolden, MN, Dean Engen of Newfolden, MN, Corey (Cristina) Olson of Las Vegas, NV, Craig (Kelly) Olson of Waconia, MN, Shane (Andrea) Borg of Thief River Falls, MN and Brandon Borg of Chanhassen, MN; six great grandchildren: Nicholas Gillund, Natasha Gillund, Tiara Engen, Lee Olson, Taylor Borg and Libby Borg; one sister, Ebba Conti of Culpepper, VA; sister-in-law, Pearl Borg of Portland, OR; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence on August 30, 1997; his parents; brothers and sisters: Ingemar Borg, Alf Borg, Ingrid Dau, Eva Sorter, Ina Germaine, Inez Davis and two sisters in infancy.
