Obituary

Blanche Bolstad of Thief River Falls, MN, age 94, died on Monday, December 7, 2015 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend John Voelker, PhD. officiating. Burial will follow at Eklund Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Goodridge, MN.

Visitation will be held from 12:30 PM until 1:30 PM on Friday, December 11, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls.

Blanche Marjorie Hanson was born January 22, 1921 in Hickory Township, near Gully, MN the daughter of Benny and Ella (Austad) Hanson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  She attended rural school near Gully.  Blanche lived at home until she married at the age of 17.

On January 22, 1938, Blanche was united in marriage to Harold Uglem in Thief River Falls, MN. The couple made their home near Goodridge, MN, where they raised their family.  Blanche took a lot of pride in her home and her children's appearance.  Blanche helped Harold on the farm driving tractor during the spring work and fall harvest.  The couple also raised dairy cattle and other animals which Blanche cared for passionately.

Blanche worked at Northwest Medical Center, Thief River Falls for 15 years. She was a nurse's aide and at Oakland Park for 1 year.  She also worked in housekeeping and for the Turkey plant for several years.  Blanche also did childcare in her home.

Blanche married Harry Bolstad in Crookston, MN on May 26, 1990. Together they made their home in Thief River Falls.  They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls.

Blanche enjoyed rummage sales, people watching, taking pictures, and dancing – her favorite activity.

Blanche is survived by her children, Harvey (Maria) Uglem, Mahtomedi, MN, Mardell Madill, of Ukiah, CA, and Bernard Uglem, Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Keith, Shane, Jeff, Troy, and Robyn; three great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, Mercedes Gallegos, Eva Gallegos, and Valentina Perez; sisters, Hulda Sigerud, Thief River Falls, MN and Oray Mickelson, Seattle, WA.

Preceding her in death is her husband, Harold Uglem and her husband, Harry Bolstad; her parents; grandchildren, Vicki and Darrin Uglem and Craig Madill; and brothers Alvin and Orbin Hanson.
