Brian Tangen of Thief River Falls, MN age 51 died suddenly on Friday, March 13, 2015 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Ale Tulu and Rev. John Golv officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, March 16, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral on Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church. Brian Kenneth Tangen was born on October 31, 1963 in Redwood Falls, MN the son of Kenneth and Dorothy (Discher) Tangen. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethel Moravian Church in Leonard, ND. He grew up and attended school in Leonard, ND. On May 25, 1985, Brian was united in marriage to Terri Offerdahl at Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN. They lived in Leonard, ND, Fargo, ND and Enderlin, ND prior to making their home in Thief River Falls, MN in 1994. This union was blessed with three children, Joshua, Jennifer, and Jacob. Brian worked at Andy's Excavating and Enderlin Sunflower Plant as well as other jobs while living in the Leonard area. While in Thief River Falls, Brian worked at Arctic Cat, Sheldon's, CHS, and most recently was Superintendent at the Thief River Golf Club. He enjoyed helping out his cousins at Glasow Farms in Davenport, ND. Brian coached Backcourt Club Basketball Teams with his friend, Steve Wilson for many years. He set an unofficial record for technical fouls during his coaching career. Brian enjoyed golfing with his friends and sons, daily coffee with the American Legion boys, going to UND hockey games with family, arguing with NDSU Bison and U of MN Gopher fans, going to the lake and relaxing and being captain on the pontoon, singing karaoke, and was quite the social butterfly. Brian was a very loving husband, father and friend. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, past Exalted Ruler of the Elks Club in Thief River Falls, and he served on the NCTGA Board (North Central Turf Grass Association). Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Terri of Thief River Falls; children, Joshua Tangen of Grand Forks, ND, Jennifer (Ben Gustin, USAF) Tangen of Grand Forks, ND, and Jacob (Emily Robson) Tangen of Thief River Falls, MN; father, Kenneth Tangen of Fargo, ND; siblings, Alan (Pam) Tangen of Fargo, ND, Linda (Kent) Korf of Sanborn, ND and Shirley (Terry) Nerby of Fargo, ND; mother and father-in-law, DelRay and JoAnn Offerdahl of Thief River Falls, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy on December 4, 2014; grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles.
